CARSON CITY — The vice president of the Nevada Board of Education is resigning to pursue work with an educational nonprofit.
Allison Serafin submitted a letter Wednesday to Gov. Brian Sandoval, saying she was stepping down from the post she was elected to in 2012 to avoid any potential conflict of interest.
Serafin works with the organization Opportunity 180, which is applying to contract with the state as part of a "charter harbormaster" program authorized by the Legislature this spring.
A bill called for the state to work with a nonprofit organization that would recruit high-quality charter school operators to Nevada.
Sandoval must appoint a replacement from Congressional District 3 in southern Nevada. He also needs to replace member Dave Cook, who was elected from Congressional District 2 and died in October.
