The three hikers stranded overnight in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area have been rescued amid a search hampered by snowy conditions, according to Metro Police.

Metro located the hikers around 3 p.m. after resuming air operations that had been suspended for several hours because of the poor weather, Officer Larry Hadfield said. The trio were airlifted to an area where ambulances were waiting, and the three were given thorough medical checks and released to families at the scene.

The Red Rock Search and Rescue group also participated in the effort, Hadfield said.

The hikers, two males and a female, spent the night in Ice Box Canyon after being left stranded by the inclement weather, Hadfield said. Several inches of snow fell in the area, according to the National Weather Service.

It was not clear what kind of gear, if any, they had to deal with the cold.

Overnight temperatures dipped into the 20s, said Nathan Foster, a meteorological technician with the National Weather Service. Temperatures in the area today are in the 30s.
