Metro police shoot man at hotel who allegedly pointed firearm at them

Metro Police shot a man near the Stratosphere this morning after they say he pointed a gun at officers, police said.

About 12:45 a.m., an employee at the Shalimar Hotel, at 1401 Las Vegas Boulevard South, called police after a person staying at the hotel reported hearing shots fired, Metro Capt. Matt McCarthy said in a briefing on the department's YouTube channel.

The employee went to the hotel's parking lot and found a man sitting on the floor and holding a gun, McCarthy said.

When police arrived, the man came out of a hotel room holding a gun, which he pointed at the officers' direction, prompting two officers to fire at him, McCarthy said.

The incident remains under investigation. The man was taken to University Medical Center in stable condition.
