Music, comedy show to benefit kids with alopecia

“I have alopecia, and bald is beautiful.”

Those words, uttered in January by Gianna — a 6-year sufferer of the autoimmune disease that causes hair loss — in front of 700 parents and school kids sparked the creation of the nonprofit Children’s Alopecia Project Kid Group Las Vegas.

To provide support for children and families dealing with alopecia, the organization is hosting a benefit show Aug. 14 at the South Point featuring doo-wop a cappella group the Alley Cats and the winner of 2003’s “Last Comic Standing,” Dat Phan.

The event also aims to educate the public about alopecia, which affects about 2 percent of the world’s population, including more than 5 million people in the United States.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased through the South Point’s website.
