Sunny skies expected for Memorial Day

Memorial Day weather

Clouds are seen over the Strip from Henderson on Sunday, May 24, 2015. Showers are expected in the valley through Sunday night, but the National Weather Service forecasts sunny skies for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, 2015.

No need to pack away your swimsuits and cancel your Memorial Day barbecue plans. The National Weather Service says the sun will come out just in time for your holiday celebrations tomorrow.

The valley has experienced light showers this morning, specifically in the northeast valley and toward Summerlin. Showers are expected to continue today, and storm clouds are forming near downtown, meteorologist Caleb Steele said.

The clouds are expected to clear out overnight, and the central valley should be clear and sunny for Memorial Day. It may still be cloudy over the mountains, but Steele said it would still be appropriate tanning, pool time and beach weather.

The average temperature Monday will be in the mid-80s, the coolest day of this week. On Tuesday, temperatures will be in the low 90s, and that pattern will continue throughout the week, reaching the mid- to high 90s Friday and Saturday.
