Sharron Angle speaks to a group of Rick Santorum supporters at Santorum’s campaign headquarters in Las Vegas, Feb. 4, 2012.

Former GOP Assemblywoman Sharron Angle will be leading a charge to change laws governing student data collection in public schools.

She and other Republicans in the state will hold a news conference in front of the Legislature on Thursday to promote a ballot initiative that would prohibit the federal government to collect from states test scores and demographic information.

Angle leads the Our Voice Pact, which is pushing the initiative, and has the Republican support of Assemblyman Brent Jones and Sen. Donald Gustavson.

The issue has become a touchstone for far-right Republicans nationwide. Jones had a failed attempt at passing a similar measure in the 2015 legislative session.

"We are leading on this issue for that reason — the people of Nevada want to protect their own private information, and especially their children’s private information,” Angle said Wednesday.

Angle, who lost to Harry Reid in a 2010 U.S. Senate race, is mulling another run for Senate. Supporters have written a letter to members of the GOP in the state asking for support. Angle is likely to make a decision by the end of the year.
