As he has all season, the junior gunslinger rose to the challenge when he dropped back and delivered a strike to Anthony Vasquez for the 30-yard touchdown.
The score not only won the game for the Grizzlies, but it kept their hopes of a deep playoff run alive.
Spring Valley’s 19-14 win over Pahrump Valley on Friday night hoisted the Grizzlies to third place in the Sunset Division 1-A standings.
The importance of that — they are no longer in fourth place and set to play powerhouse Faith Lutheran in the first round.
“They really gave us a run,” Spring Valley coach Marcus Teal said. “I felt that our team just hung in there and kept playing, and finally got out of their own way when they needed to.”
The Grizzlies had two touchdowns called back for penalties earlier in the game that would have spared them the drama of a fourth-quarter comeback.
Moore also started the scoring off with a touchdown pass to Julio Rosas Sanchez, and running back Raheem Edmonds scored on a 15-yard scamper.
Next week Spring Valley faces a bounty of distractions as it tries to clinch a playoff berth against Sierra Vista.
Not only is it a rivalry game, but it also falls on the same night as homecoming and senior night combined. Add to that, the game comes on a short week because it will be televised as part of Thursday Night Lights.
“There’s going to be a lot of hoopla,” Teal said. “I’ve got a lot of work to get these guys prepared. It’s going to be a big one.”
