Its losing streak had just ended at 30 games. Time to celebrate, right?

The Rancho High football team snapped its lengthy skid dating back to 2011 today, beating visiting Valley 34-14 behind two touchdown passes and a scoring run from quarterback Dion Southern.

While it was a time to celebrate, that celebration was short-lived. The Rams play Boulder City next week, and they plan to win again.

“The kids are absolutely incredible,” Rancho coach Tom Pletsch said. “They expected to win. I keep telling everyone, things have changed here. They are already looking ahead to next week.”

Donald Bush scored on a 10-yard pass from Southern, who added scoring runs of 25 and 6 yards. Robert Howard closed the scoring with a 28-yard touchdown run.

Last week, Rancho narrowly lost to Gila Ridge of Arizona. It was only a matter of time until the streak ended.

“I’m thrilled. I’m thrilled. Just a really cool night,” Pletsch said.
