Las Vegas man critically injured in fall from wheelchair onto busy road

A 73-year-old man fell out of his wheelchair and was hit and seriously injured shortly after noon Saturday at Maryland Parkway near Desert Inn Road, according to Metro Police.

Also according to police:

Edwin Madrigal-Valdez, 28, of Las Vegas was driving a 2010 Dodge Charger south on Maryland about 12:07 p.m. when he hit Raymond Hill, also of Las Vegas. Hill had fallen into the road after coming down a ramp from a business. Madrigal-Valdez swerved in an attempt to avoid Hill, but the Charger’s bumper struck Hill in the head.

Hill was taken to Sunrise hospital. Madrigal-Valdez wasn’t hurt and remained at the scene.

Alcohol is not thought to have played a role in the crash. Police continue to investigate.
