Teen dies in crash with semitrailer; driver arrested on suspicion of DUI

A man was arrested for showing signs of impairment Saturday evening after a vehicle crash that left a teenage passenger dead, according to Metro Police.

Just before midnight, 20-year-old Pedro Regalado-Cardenas was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe east on Colton Avenue, near Lamb Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue, when he crashed into a parked flatbed semitrailer, police said. The Chevrolet slid about 150 feet and the passenger side of the vehicle separated.

The 19-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Regalado-Cardenas was taken to University Medical Center with minor injuries, police said. He was booked at the Clark County Detention Center after being released from the hospital.

This was the 66th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2016.

The crash remains under investigation.
