Teen fatally beat puppy that chewed up new shoes, authorities allege

A Pahrump teen has been arrested on a count of animal cruelty after admitting he kicked a puppy and hit it with shoes the dog had chewed up, according to the Nye County’s Sheriff’s Office. The puppy died as a result, authorities said.

A Nye County animal control officer arrived about 12:40 p.m. Monday to a home near Barney Street and Charleston Park Avenue and encountered the 17-year-old holding the limp body of a pit bull puppy, officials said.

The teen told the officer he woke up and discovered his new shoes had been chewed up, officials said. That’s when he took the shoes and hit the dog with them, while also kicking the animal, officials said.

A necropsy determined the puppy died from blunt force trauma to the chest, officials said.

Further details were not immediately available.
