Las Vegas Sun sports editors Ray Brewer and Case Keefer welcome back football season by going through all the leagues, and also touch on major storylines. They also disagree on picks for numerous week 1 games.

Junior Elijah Alvarez intercepted two passes on defense and scored on offense to help Mojave cruise past Del Sol 36-0 Friday night.

The Rattlers jumped out to a 30-0 halftime lead thanks to 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns by Tawee Walker.

“Tawee is an amazing all-around kid,” Mojave coach Abraham Gonzales said. “He plays both ways for us and runs hard. He’s like a machine.”

Mojave racked up more than 250 rushing yards on the ground during its dominant win.

“Offensively we were able to establish our run early,” Gonzales said. “The score tonight is just a reflection of the work the kids put in over the summer. Our kids are hungry. They wanted to play and it showed tonight.”

While the running backs played their part, Gonzalez credits the success on the ground largely to the offensive linemen.

“The line actually finished the game with no holding penalties and no false starts,” Gonzales said. “I’m excited to see what they can do this season.”
