A suspect has been arrested in a double shooting that left one man dead and another critically injured Tuesday in a west valley neighborhood, according to Metro Police.

The shooting followed a three-week “beef” between the victims and the suspect, a witness told investigators, according to a Metro arrest warrant.

Alex Yanko, 48, was arrested late Wednesday on a warrant on counts of murder and attempted murder, police said. He was being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center, according to jail logs.

The shooting, which may have stemmed from an ongoing dispute over money or property, was reported about 6:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of Starbright Lane, near Spring Mountain Road and Durango Drive, police said.

Officers found two men with gunshot wounds, police said. Both were taken to University Medical Center, where one of them died and the other was in critical condition, police said.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the deceased man as Edward Richard Budd, 47, of Las Vegas. He died of multiple gunshot wounds, officials said.

After talking to witnesses and reviewing security camera video, investigators determined Yanko showed up to the residence and he and one of the victims began to argue outside, police said. Budd intervened, and Yanko allegedly pulled out a gun and shot both men, police said.

The surviving victim identified the shooter as Yanko, according to the warrant.
