Firefighters found a man and woman with “substantial medical conditions” dead in a southeast valley house today after a caregiver couldn’t contact them and went to the home to check on the couple, according to Metro police.

It wasn’t immediately clear how to couple died, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said, noting that the deaths are suspicious.

Investigators initially said they believed the man had been shot in the head, but upon closer look, it was not the case, McGrath said.

For now, detectives were backing away from treating it as a murder-suicide, but the investigation is ongoing, he said.

Police were dispatched about 10:40 a.m. to the house in the 4000 block of Vader Avenue, near Russell Road and Lamb Boulevard, Metro Lt. Patricia Cervantes said.

The caregiver went to check on the couple after not hearing from them in some time, McGrath said. They were described as being in their 50s and with low mobility.

The Clark County coroner’s office will determine their causes of death.

Further information was not immediately available.
