A woman is dead and four other people injured, two critically, after an overnight apartment fire near Lake Mead and Martin Luther boulevards, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

A young girl and a man who were badly burned were taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, officials said. Two teen girls, who also were hospitalized, escaped through a window, officials said.

Firefighters responded about 12:45 a.m. today to 833 W. Lake Mead Boulevard and encountered flames shooting from the apartment, officials said.

The woman’s body was found inside and the man was outside, officials said. The young girl, who had to be resuscitated, also was found inside, officials said.

The teens, one who was injured escaping the fire, were taken to UMC for possible smoke inhalation, officials said.

Investigators believe the fire started in the living room, and there were no fire alarms found in the unit, officials said. The fire is being probed by Metro Police, arson investigators and the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Five people at an adjacent apartment were also displaced. Damage was estimated at $35,000, officials said.

The Southern Nevada chapter of the American Red Cross was assisting those affected.
