Fire does $75,000 damage to house occupied by squatters

A downtown Las Vegas house occupied by squatters caught fire this morning, causing about $75,000 in damage, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

Crews were dispatched about 10:15 a.m. to Berkley Avenue, near Ogden and Eastern avenues, where a canopy and an add-on room on the back of the house on fire, officials said.

The blaze was brought under control in about 15 minutes, officials said. No other houses were damaged, and no one was injured.

A cause of fire hadn’t been determined as of this afternoon, officials said.
