Metro Police investigate an officer-involved shooting in which a person was wounded in the 6700 block of Durango Drive on Tuesday July 18, 2017.

Metro Police today identified an officer who on Tuesday shot and critically wounded a suspect they say pulled a gun during a foot chase.

Officer Jeffrey Burr, 29, remains on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues, police said.

Burr was dispatched about 1:50 p.m. Tuesday to the parking lot of a shopping center in the 6700 block of North Durango Drive regarding a man who appeared to be distraught and making a “commotion,” police said.

The man disobeyed commands to get in front of Burr’s cruiser and took off running with Burr following, police said.

During the chase, the man reached to his waistband and pulled out a gun, prompting Burr to shoot him multiple times, police said.

The man, who suffered life-threatening wounds, was rushed to University Medical Center, police said. Officials have not identified him or provided an update on his condition.

A detailed briefing on the shooting, the 12th involving a Metro officer this year, is expected Friday. Burr has been with Metro since May 2009.
