Firefighters rescued five kittens from a blaze this morning that damaged four units at an east valley apartment complex, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 9 a.m. to the complex at 2599 Valley St., near Charleston Boulevard and 25th Street, where they encountered flames and smoke billowing from the second floor of a building, officials said.

The building was unoccupied, but firefighters rescued the kittens from one of the units, officials said.

No one was injured, and the fire was out within 30 minutes, officials said. A damage estimate wasn’t available.

A separate fire, meanwhile, caused about $50,000 in damage to a house in the east valley, fire department officials said.

The fire was reported about 10 a.m. on Fogg Street, near Stewart Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard. It was extinguished in less than 15 minutes, and no one was injured, officials said.
