A 14-year-old girl is expected to recover after being stabbed multiple times in the chest during a fight this morning with another female student at Chaparral High School, according to the Clark County School District.

Police arrested the other girl involved in the fight, a 16-year-old, School District Police Capt. Ken Young said. She was expected to face a count as a juvenile of battery with a weapon causing substantial bodily harm, he said.

The injured girl was admitted to a hospital for observation, Young said.

The fight, which did not appear gang-related, was reported about 10:20 a.m. in the quad area, shortly before lunch, Young said.

Staff quickly intervened to end the fight, and students “did their part” by not interfering, Young said. This type of incident is frustrating because it overshadows the positive work going on in the school, Young said.

School will be let out on time and classes will be held as normal on Wednesday, officials said.

In a news release, district officials asked parents to make sure their children “know that weapons are not permitted on campus, and if students are aware of a situation where they may be confronted, to contact school administration or law enforcement authorities to prevent incidents like this from happening.”

On Sept. 21, three students were arrested and a police officer was injured after two fights at Chaparral, officials said. A knife was recovered in that incident.
