Ray Brewer and Case Keefer recap all the action from rivalry week, and spend extra time looking ahead to a few of the evenly-matched games in week 9.

Valley’s Endy Diaz missed both of the extra points he attempted in the first half tonight at Boulder City. But in the second half, Diaz was perfect on all three of his attempts, including the game-winning points in a 33-32 victory.

“That was the difference,” Valley coach Quincy Burts said.

Jeffrey Maestas had two touchdown runs and about 150 rushing yards for the Vikings, who won for the third straight week. That’s a significant improvement for a squad that didn’t win a game in 2014 and 2015, and won two games last season.

“The kids are buying in,” Burts said. “They have been putting in a lot of work.”

Valley trailed 26-12 at halftime, but quickly scored a pair of touchdowns to even the game. Leeland Crawford had about 80 receiving yards for the Vikings, and Trayvon Mack-Escoto and Seth Jarrett had touchdowns.

Next week, Valley plays Las Vegas for the No. 2 playoff seed in the Northeast League.

“Credit to our kids. They hung strong,” Burts said.
