Metro searching for suspect in east valley hit and run

Metro Police are searching for a driver they say crashed and critically injured a pedestrian who was pushing a shopping cart across an east valley road Friday.

The 51-year-old male pedestrian was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver fled the scene.

First responders were dispatched about 10 p.m. to Desert Inn Road, near Topaz Street, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear at what time the crash occurred.

An investigation determined that the Las Vegas man was pushing a shopping cart across Desert Inn when he and the cart were struck by a car heading east.

Detectives are searching for a red car — similar to a Ford Fusion — that should have damage on its right-front side, and missing a passenger-side mirror, police said.
