Mojave running back Tawee Walker ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns Thursday night to clinch the second seed in the 3A Sunset Region and a home playoff game for the Rattlers.

Mojave ran over Pahrump Valley 44-34 for its third straight win to end the regular season. In those three victories the Rattlers outscored their opponents by a combined score of 120-40.

“We are really attacking on offense and defense,” Mojave coach Abraham Gonzalez said. “This is what we were hoping for — peaking going into the playoffs.”

Walker finished his spectacular regular season with more than 1,200 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns.

“Tawee is a phenomenal player for us,” Gonzalez said. “The best part about that young man is he steps up when we need him to step up. He puts in the effort when we need it the most.”

Just a season removed from finishing 1-8 and winless in league play, the Rattlers finished in second place in the 3A Sunset league and will host Chaparral in the first round of the playoffs.

“It’s really big for us and gives us motivation to keep the success going,” Gonzalez said. “It’s not just about success for the football team, but it’s also good for the school. You see the ripple effect on campus.”
