Police: Las Vegas man arrested in 2014 Virginia homicide

A 34-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested in Nevada in the 2014 homicide of Katrice Major in Newport News, Va., officials said.

The Newport News Police Department obtained charges on Calvon Whitehead, 34, of Las Vegas, on April 20. He was arrested shortly after midnight Pacific time Monday and will be extradited back to Newport News, according to Newport News Police spokesman Brandon Maynard.

The charges are connected to a homicide that occurred in the 2200 block of Jefferson Avenue on May 10, 2014, at the Walker Village Apartments during a robbery. Major, a 32-year-old woman, was beaten and shot multiple times in her home, according to previous reports by the Daily Press.

Whitehead is charged with first-degree murder, robbery, four counts of abduction, seven counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and malicious wounding, according to Maynard.

Two other men are also charged in the case. Joe Lewis Thomas, of Carrollton, and Jason Robles were arrested and charged in 2015. Both men are charged with first-degree murder and other charges, the Daily Press reported in 2015.
