Reno City Council advances new strip club restrictions

RENO — The Reno City Council is moving forward with proposed restrictions that could dramatically change the way strip clubs operate.

The Reno Gazette Journal reports the council voted unanimously Wednesday to advance a new ordinance that would bar lap dances and private booths at the clubs.

Council members also are pursuing ordinances that would force the four existing clubs in downtown to move to properly zoned industrial areas and raise the minimum age for dancers and employees from 18 to 21.

Club owner Kamy Keshmiri says they're trying to wipe out the industry without proving the businesses create crime and blight in the downtown area.

The draft operating restrictions are expected to come to a final vote by the end of the year.
