With the final seconds ticking off the clock, Pahrump Valley quarterback Tyler Floyd found receiver Antonio Margiotta for a touchdown pass to pull within two points of Virgin Valley.
Desperate to tie the game, the Trojans tried for the two-point conversion with a sweep play to the outside, but the Bulldogs defense stuffed the runner to claim the 26-24 win and move to 2-0 on the season.
Virgin Valley initially burst out to a 20-6 lead behind the arm of junior quarterback Meb Hollingshead, but Pahrump Valley clawed its way back into the game with a steady rushing attack led by Nico Velazquez.
“(Pahrump Valley’s) front six is very tough on defense, and that double-wing offense they run isn’t easy to stop,” Virgin Valley coach Matt Woods said. “It’s really the only time we face it so getting ready for it in one week is tough.”
The Bulldogs allowed four scores but stopped the point after attempt each time, and it ended up being the difference in the game.
Virgin Valley is now 2-0 on the season and hosts Del Sol (1-1) next Friday.
