School district, union decide on plan over teachers’ pay

The Las Vegas-area school district and a teachers union have agreed on a plan that will improve teachers' pay over three years.

Clark County School District trustees announced the agreement at a School Board meeting Thursday.

Under its agreement with the Clark County Education Association, the district will pay $51 million to provide step increases and increased health care funds for licensed personnel contracts in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years.

It will also pay $17 million for the first year of implementation of the Professional Growth System.

Association members and trustees still need to ratify the agreement.

The School Board is set to vote on the deal next month.
