The Desert Pines basketball team has a new challenge this season. It’s a challenge coach Mike Uzan has long wanted.

The Jaguars, the two-time defending 3A state champions, were realigned to the large-school classification this season. That means competing against the likes of Bishop Gorman, Clark and Coronado — teams Uzan feels his is just as talented as — for a championship.

Desert Pines has already proved itself in the new class, winning its initial three games.
