Two children, ages 2 and 5, sat in a man's vehicle as he exited, got in a fight and allegedly stabbed a married couple, according to Metro Police.

The male victim was stabbed seven times, and died at University Medical Center where his wife also was taken, police said. They’d arrived at a south valley business to escort the woman’s cousin from work.

The victim’s wife suffered two survivable wounds, police said.

Her cousin had asked for company after some sort of dispute had broken out between her and the suspect, Sheyland Barnett, 32, the previous day, police said.

At about 5 p.m. Wednesday, the couple pulled up to the woman’s workplace in the 6800 block of Bermuda Road, south of Sunset Road, police said.

Barnett, who’d gone to pick up his girlfriend at a nearby workplace, suddenly encountered the victims’ vehicle, police said.

Then both vehicles stopped, passengers got out and a fight ensued, police said.

Barnett later told detectives that he’d armed himself because he feared for his life before leaving his vehicle, police said.

After the stabbing, Barnett showed up at a Henderson hospital with superficial cuts that police believe were self-inflicted. After he was detained by officers, he showed them where he ditched the knife.

He was booked on one count each of murder and battery with a deadly weapon, police said.
