Las Vegas motorcyclist dies in crash with excavator

A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon when he slammed into an excavator in a north valley neighborhood, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. on Craig Road and Al Carrison Street, police said. Medics declared the 33-year-old man dead at the scene.

An investigation determined that a Caterpillar 420F2 Backhoe was heading north on Al Carrison when a westbound speeding motorcycle crashed onto its backside, police said.

The cyclist was thrown from his 2014 Ducati 1199, which slid about 250 feet, police said.

The operator of the excavator was not injured nor impaired, police said.

The cyclist was the 130th fatality in Metro-patrolled roads this year.
