UNLV Rebels Edge Hawaii Warriors

UNLV Rebels running back Lexington Thomas (3) eyes the end zone after breaking a tackle attempt by Hawaii Warriors linebacker Jahlani Tavai (31) during their game at Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017.

The UNLV football team was picked to finish third in their division by Mountain West league media.

In the poll released ahead of today’s media day in Las Vegas, Fresno State was tabbed to win the Rebels’ six-team West Division and San Diego State was pegged in second. League favorite Boise State was picked to win the Mountain Division.

Fresno State received 16 first-place votes in the 22-person poll; San Diego State had the other six. The Rebels were one spot ahead of UNR.

The Rebels had one player on the preseason all-league team in senior running back Lexington Thomas. Thomas needs 1,250 yards this season to become the Rebels’ all-time leading rusher.

In 2017, he rushed for 1,336 yards on 211 carries for a 6.3 yards per carry average.

We’ll have more UNLV coverage the next two days out of media day, including Wednesday when coach Tony Sanchez speaks.
