On Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at 6:06 a.m., a semitruck headed south on U.S. 93 northeast of Las Vegas failed to stop for stalled traffic in a construction zone, hitting a Toyota Yaris (not seen in video) and three other vehicles, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Standing in the middle of a remote highway northeast of Las Vegas, a construction crew flagger holding a stop sign appears to notice a semitruck approaching halted traffic — and not slowing down.

He desperately tries to alert the driver, but it’s too late. He has to run out of the way before the truck smashes into multiple vehicles, scattering debris across U.S. 93.

The fatal crash, which happened about 6 a.m. on July 18, was captured on a 41-second dashcam video from another truck. The Nevada Highway Patrol released the footage today.

Two Idaho residents, Robert Barns, 50, whose Toyota Yaris took the brunt of the impact, and Christopher Markley, 34, his passenger, were thrown from the car and died, the patrol said.

The truck driver was taken to University Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries, along with the drivers of another semi, a pickup truck and another car, the patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed, the patrol said.
