Police: Gunman shoved victim before fatal shooting

At first, the gunman and the gunshot victim were on separate floors at a motel north of the Strip, several yards apart. But an escalating argument found them face to face in an alleyway.

A shoving bout soon led to gunfire. And it was captured in its entirety on video, according to a Metro Police report.

It wasn’t clear what the spat between Spencer Trevathan, 29, and Keith Friese was about Thursday afternoon in the 2200 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South, but it led to Friese’s death and Trevathan’s arrest on a count of murder.

On the landing of the second floor of the motel where he lived, Trevathan, a security guard on his lunch break, was seen exchanging words with Friese, who was on the floor below, police said.

The video then shows Trevathan heading downstairs, walking to Friese and then shoving him with both hands, police said. Friese returned the push.

That’s when Trevathan was seen on video reaching toward a holster on his right hip and pulling out a gun, police said. With his left and right arms extended in Friese’s direction, Trevathan pulled the trigger and shot Friese in the torso, police said.

Friese holstered his 9 mm Glock, called 911 and provided medical aid to Friese, police said. An employee from a nearby business practiced CPR before an ambulance arrived. Friese died at University Medical Center.

Friese was not armed, police said.

Trevathan, who did not speak to detectives, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on a count of murder. He remains jailed without bond, jail records show. He will appear in court Thursday morning.
