Man on moped gunned down by pair who exited vehicle in north valley

Updated Friday, June 1, 2018 | 8:22 p.m.

A spat between a moped rider and occupants of a vehicle escalated into a fatal shooting Friday afternoon on a north valley roadway, according to Metro Police.

Two armed occupants exited the red vehicle and both pumped multiple rounds into the man on the motorized scooter, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

Officers and medics responded about 3:30 p.m. to the area near Las Vegas Boulevard North and Cheyenne Avenue.

The victim was rushed to University Medical Center where he died, Spencer said.

According to a preliminary account from Spencer, some sort of argument broke out when the suspects and the victim were heading north on the boulevard.

The vehicle entered into an apartment complex, but made a U-turn, and soon enough they were all heading south, with the victim riding on a sidewalk, Spencer said.

Two people got out of the car and opened fire before fleeing, Spencer said. A motive for the slaying hadn’t been established Friday night.

It wasn’t clear if the victim and the suspects knew each other.

Further details were not immediately available.
