Prison for felon who posted machine gun photos on Instagram

A five-time felon has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison after posting photos on social media of himself at a Las Vegas gun range shooting machine guns and other weapons he was prohibited from possessing.

Jack Hessiani of Ventura, California was convicted in December of one count of a felon in possession of a firearm in federal court in Las Vegas. U.S. Judge Larry Hicks sentenced him Wednesday to 77 months in prison and three years' parole.

Federal prosecutors say Hessiani posted Instagram photos of himself shooting machine guns and an automatic rifle at Battlefield Vegas just off The Strip. They say he lied when he signed a waiver stating he didn't have any criminal history that would prevent him from using a firearm.

Previous convictions included stalking, making violent threats and inflicting corporal injury.
