The Canyon Springs High football surrendered an early field goal against visiting Palo Verde tonight in the Mountain Region quarterfinals.

But the top-seeded Pioneers scored 35 unanswered points in a 35-10 victory to advance to next week’s semifinals against Faith Lutheran.

“Faith Lutheran is a well-coached team,” Canyon Springs coach Gus McNair said. “Coach (Vernon) Fox does a good job. They are very, very explosive."

Canyon Springs, too, was explosive against Palo Verde.

Quarterback Xavier DeLong completed 15 of 19 passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns. Touchdown receptions came from Jayvion Pugh, Martin Blake and Javeion Davison. Pugh also had a touchdown run.
