Police: Driver left after woman hit by car, critically injured

A woman who was pushing a shopping cart in a northeast valley road overnight was critically injured when she and her dog were hit by a car, according to Metro Police.

Jabarie Norris, the 19-year-old driver of the 2002 Infiniti I30, left the scene but was later taken into custody, police said. He was being held without bond at the Clark County Detention Center on a count of duty to stop at the scene of an accident, jail logs show.

The dog died at the scene, police said.

Officers responded about 12:45 a.m. to Gowan Road, near Nellis Boulevard, and found a 40-year-old Las Vegas woman on the ground, police said. She was taken to University Medical Center, where she was in critical condition, police said.

Norris, who was transporting three other teens in the car, briefly stopped but left without rendering aid or calling authorities, police said. He was arrested a short while later, police said.
