The Boulder City High football team’s first playoff game in five seasons didn’t disappoint, featuring plenty of drama and big plays on both sides of the ball.

And, most important for the Eagles, a 28-20 win against visiting Del Sol.

Boulder City used 184 rushing yards and three touchdowns from Thorsten Balmer, including a 1-yard scoring run with 1:53 remaining as Boulder City closed the game with 22 unanswered points.

Balmer also had a 39-yard touchdown run in the comeback, and Trey Davis hauled in a 76-yard touchdown pass from Parker Reynolds.

Boulder City travels to Pahrump next week for its next playoff game. A victory would send the Eagles to the 3A state semifinals.

Boulder City’s playoff absence included dropping to an independent schedule — meaning no chance for the playoffs — to rebuild the program. It’s safe to say the strategy worked.

“The big thing was getting the town back into football,” Boulder City coach Chris Morelli said. “Some kids were sitting around and (electing) not to play. But there’s a buzz back now for football.”
