Wells now plans a medical marijuana dispensary

WELLS — The rural northeast Nevada town of Wells has cleared the way for a medical marijuana dispensary within the city limits.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports Wells City Manager Jolene Supp sent a letter to potential applicants this week that says any stipulations on a special permit to open a retail store are yet to be determined.

The state will select a licensee subject to local approval.

The council approved the letter supporting a dispensary Sept. 11 on a 3-2 vote. It also approved a resolution for a 3 percent city tax on growing and dispending marijuana in the city, likely similar to a local motel room tax.

Wells already has already sold two 5-acre plots in an industrial park for growing and production facilities, but until now the city had opposed any dispensaries within city limits.
