A man shot by police Thursday and another person have been identified as suspects in two slayings last month, according to Metro Police.

Christopher Ashoff, 38, and Devin Campbell, 24, have been booked on counts of murder in two separate shootings that occurred the same day, police said today.

Ashoff, who was shot by police Thursday morning when he rammed unmarked Metro vehicles in a neighborhood near Alta Drive and the 215 Beltway, remained hospitalized, while Campbell was arrested Tuesday near Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road, police said.

The first slaying occurred about 1:15 p.m. Jan. 22 on Brittlewood Avenue and Lamoille Circle, near Pecos Road and Hacienda Avenue, police said. Officers responding to a possible auto-pedestrian crash found a gunshot victim in the street, police said.

The victim, Josue Contreras-Verdin, 24, died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, authorities said.

About three hours later, North Las Vegas Police responded to the 4800 block of Rancho Linda Court to investigate a report of a traffic accident and a possible shooting and found a gravely wounded man, Metro said.

Juan Gonzalez-Cruz, 36, died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

It wasn’t clear how Ashoff and Campbell were identified as suspects, but detectives on Thursday tracked Ashoff to a house in the 500 block of Poplar Leaf Street, police said. He ignored orders to surrender and was wounded when he crashed into Metro vehicles in an attempt to flee, police said.
