Woman in wheelchair struck, killed by bus in North Las Vegas

A woman on a motorized wheelchair was killed Saturday night in a North Las Vegas intersection when she was struck by a Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada bus, according to city police.

“It appeared the pedestrian was traveling in the crosswalk, but investigators will determine who was at fault through witness testimony, surveillance video, and evidence at the scene,” said North Las Vegas Police early this morning in a news release, noting impairment was not suspected in the crash.

The crash was reported about 6 p.m. at Las Vegas Boulevard North and Civic Center Drive, police said. The 28-year-old woman died at the scene.

According to a preliminary account provided by police, the woman was heading north on Civic Center, when she was hit by the large commercial vehicle, which was traveling south on Las Vegas Boulevard, in a designated bus lane.
