In a ceremony today at Metro Police headquarters, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo took the oath of office, kicking off his second term as the department’s leader.

In a video of a segment of his speech posted on Metro’s Facebook page, Lombardo touted the agency’s hiring of more than 900 officers and 280 correction’s officers under his watch.

“Those cops make a difference, and the result of that is a reduction in crime, which is my job,” Lombardo said. He noted that in the last two years, violent crime has dipped about 10 percent, while property crime is down 7 percent.

With 73 percent of the vote, Lombardo handily won re-election to his second term during the primary election in June 2018. He was sworn in by Clark County District Judge William Kephart.

Lombardo first took office in 2015, succeeding former Sheriff Doug Gillespie.
