Power expected to be restored to small Nevada communities

OVERTON — Power was expected to be restored late Monday to nearly 16,000 customers from Overton to Mesquite after a fire damaged a high-voltage transmission line.

The Overton Power District No. 5 says a power pole has been replaced.

It's now phasing in service to customers in southeastern Nevada but urged people to turn off their heaters to reduce the power load until everyone can get online.

The fire was contained earlier Monday.

Keith Buchhalter of the power district says customers in Mesquite, Bunkerville, Logandale, Moapa and Overton were without power for several hours.

Winds were gusty Monday, but Buchhalter says it's not clear what caused the fire.
