Commission set to OK pay increases for some county employees

Clark County commissioners are set to award a 2.25% wage bump for more than 1,000 employees next Tuesday.

The salary increase will go toward 1,024 non-management employees who are not part of a collective bargaining agreement.

County employees are represented by 12 different unions, spokesman Erik Pappa said. Eight of the unions, such as the District Attorney Investigators Association and the Clark County Prosecutors Association, settled on the 2.25% pay bump.

Even if an employee isn’t part of the union, they will also receive an increase because “it’s past practice to award the same thing to non-union employees,” Pappa said.

Meanwhile, the Services Employees International Union, which represents 5,800 Clark County employees, is still in negotiations. In December, the union asked for a 3% wage increase. An arbitrator sided with the county on 2%.

Today, both sides are in arbitration again. They have a contract through 2020.

“We’ve been negotiating, but we haven’t been able to come to terms,” Pappa said. “We think 2.25% is fair.”
