CARSON CITY — Nevada lawmakers are set to hear a bill that would rewrite the state's recall election laws.
The measure passed the state Senate in a 16-5 vote and is expected to be heard by a panel of Assembly lawmakers on Thursday.
State Sen. James Ohrenschall told lawmakers earlier this year that the bill aims to clarify the recall process, make it more transparent and less subject to abuse. He says the state's recall process has received "a high level of scrutiny" in recent years and there have been reports that petition signatures were obtained through deceptive efforts.
The measure would make it a felony for a person connected to a recall petition to "knowingly" or "negligently" obtain a false signature.
