Cooler weather, rain expected later this week

Cooler, breezier weather is expected later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The high temperature is expected to hit 92 degrees Wednesday but will dip into the 70s on Thursday, with a low in the mid-50s. High winds are also expected.

Weather service meteorologist Clay Morgan said a low pressure system may bring rain and thunderstorms on Thursday.

The valley has seen more rain than normal this year, with 4.51 inches since Jan. 1. That’s more than two inches above average for the year to date, Morgan said.

The cool-down, however, isn’t expected to last long, with a high of 89 degrees forecast for Saturday.

Morgan said such temperature fluctuations aren’t uncommon for this time of year, though they are more prevalent in March and April. In 2008, the temperature dipped from 108 degrees on May 19 to 64 degrees on May 24.
