Suspect arrested in death of Tahoe pedestrian, hit-and-run

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — A 20-year-old suspect has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian at South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

Police say a man in his 70s was walking across Lake Tahoe Boulevard at about 8 p.m. Sunday near Fairview when he was struck by a black car that fled the scene.

Investigators say he was hit so hard he was thrown onto the sidewalk and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the suspect, Marlon Cruz, walked into the South Lake Tahoe police station at about 12:30 a.m. Monday and told officers he may have been involved in an accident. He was charged with felony hit-and-run and booked into the El Dorado County Jail where his bail is set at $75,000.

It's not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
