Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman arrives with showgirls during an official opening ceremony for the Downtown Grand in downtown Las Vegas Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013.

Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman's job as regional tourism ambassador is the latest casualty of the economic shutdown, according to Lori Nelson-Kraft, spokeswoman for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

“Due to the impact of COVID-19 and its closure of the destination, we sadly canceled Mayor Oscar Goodman’s consulting agreement as our Host Committee chairman,” Nelson-Kraft said in a statement. “We greatly appreciate and value his enormous contributions over the past decade to welcome and thank our visitors and honor our hospitality workforce through the LVCVA’s Hospitality Heroes program.”

Goodman served three terms as mayor of Las Vegas, a reign that ended in 2011 when his wife, Carolyn Goodman, was elected to the post, which she continues to hold.

Goodman, 80, was born in Pennsylvania but moved to Las Vegas in the 1960s and has enjoyed a long career as an attorney, politician, restauranteur and ambassador to the city.

“Mayor Goodman has always been and will continue to be the biggest cheerleader for Las Vegas, and we adore his enthusiasm and pride for our destination,” Nelson-Kraft said.
