County allows liquor stores to make deliveries

Liquor stores in unincorporated Clark County will now be able to deliver package alcohol while their doors remain closed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’re doing our best to work with the industry and lessen the hardship that’s out there as best as we possibly can,” Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly said.

All nonessential businesses in Nevada have been ordered closed through the end of the month.

Deliveries must be made by liquor store employees, said Jacqueline Holloway, director of the Clark County Department of Business License. Orders cannot be placed through food-delivery apps like Postmates or Uber Eats.

“We have put together a rigorous set of guidelines,” she said. Those placing orders must be of legal age and businesses are required to maintain a list of purchases, names, addresses and the type of identification used to place the orders.

Establishments can email the Department of Business License to obtain a delivery permit at [email protected]. Requests can also be made by calling 702-455-0174.

The county is also allowing restaurants to sell alcoholic beverages with food orders for curbside pickup.

“A customer can order retail beer wine or a spirit-based product,” she said. “We’re talking more or less like a craft beer or a wine cooler … No mixed drinks whatsoever.”

The permits are only intended to remain effective until April 30 or until the governor’s emergency order shuttering nonessential businesses is lifted, county officials said.
