Clark County officials certify razor-thin results of commission race

The Clark County Commission voted unanimously today to certify the results of an exceptionally close commission race favoring Ross Miller over Stavros Anthony.

Miller, a Democrat, edged out Anthony, a Republican, by just 10 votes in last month’s election.

The commission delayed certifying the results at its Nov. 16 meeting because of a discrepancy between the number of voter sign-ins and the number of votes counted.

The commission could have ordered a new election but decided to leave it to a judge to sort out if Anthony contests the results in court.

Clark County Registrar of Voters Joe Gloria said the race was so close that the “margin of victory is very difficult to reconcile.”

“Over 150,000 voted in this contest. It's very out of the ordinary for a race with that many votes to be decided by 10,” Gloria said.

Anthony did not immediately respond to a request for comment today.

Anthony, a Las Vegas city councilman, has argued that the commission had a duty to call another election.

Miller, a former Nevada secretary of state, previously defended his victory via Twitter, saying races are often decided by small margins, but “we don’t toss out all of the ballots and redo elections because of minor errors that  occur in every election.”
