Man, 93, arrested in shooting of apartment maintenance worker

A 93-year-old man has been booked on attempted murder and kidnapping counts in Thursday’s shooting of a maintenance worker at an apartment complex, according to jail and booking logs.

Robert Thomas, who was being held at the Clark County Detention Center, also faces counts of burglary while in possession of a gun, discharging a firearm in a prohibited area and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, jail logs show.

An office worker at the apartment complex in the 4000 block of Viking Road, near Valley View Boulevard, called police about 9:10 a.m. Thursday to report a confrontation between the victim and an armed resident, Metro Capt. Nichole Splinter said.

The 911 dispatcher and officers responding to the scene heard gunshots, Splinter said. The victim, who was struck multiple times, was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, she said.

It wasn’t clear what happened next, but an officer fired one shot, grazing Thomas, who then dropped his gun, Splinter said.

Thomas was taken to a hospital as a precaution, she said.

Further details were not released.
